Biography of Todd Sylvester
Todd Sylvester, an experienced motivational speaker and life coach, has spent over twenty years inspiring adults and children alike to avoid and change addictive behaviors. In 1989 he founded the non-profit, anti-drug entity Sly Dog, which features a sought-after education program for elementary schools: “Drug Free That’s Me.” This program has encouraged thousands of school-age students, emphasizing principles of positive self- talk, personal commitment, goal setting, and character building. Including his school programs, Todd has conducted over 300 speaking engagements at churches, homes and businesses.
Todd currently works as an Addictive Voice Recognition Counselor at Wasatch Recovery, a reputable rehabilitation center for those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. Here he provides one-on-one mentoring to local as well as international clients. Described as having “a unique gift to develop trusting relationships quickly,” Todd has guided hundreds to sobriety and other behavioral successes through the individualized support he offers each client. His ability to “speak to a person’s soul and help them find their true motive to change” has been the key for inspiring others to make permanent lifestyle changes.
A consequential component of Todd’s profound influence concerns his own personal experience-- a journey from self-hate and hopelessness to faith and recovery. At a young age, Todd was exposed to drugs and alcohol and quickly became addicted. Years of rampant drug abuse lead to such devastating failures that he concluded his young life had nowhere left to go. Fortunately, Todd’s perspective began to change along with his choice of drink: lemonade from a little girl’s neighborhood stand. Becoming her best, most generous customer gave him hope he had never felt before. Todd’s strengthening sense of purpose sparked a fervent determination to change his life and to prevent others from enduring the physical and emotional pain that had threatened his life. As he moved forward with newfound faith and a desire to serve others, Todd learned that more powerful than any addiction was the human soul—the human soul on fire.
Today, Todd uses his firsthand fight against addiction to give hope to thousands of teenagers, parents and adults and to connect with fellow addicts on an authentic level. Thanks to the far-reaching power of the Internet and social media, Todd inspires people all over the globe; a recent inspirational message featuring his story achieved over one million views in less than a month.
Todd has been married to his sweetheart for 23 years. They have four children and live a happy, busy life together.
